Konyomi pricing and facts

Konyomi turns a written story into manga chapters. Kon, the fox who runs it, reads your text, draws each character once and then draws the pages. This page lists what Konyomi accepts, what it costs and what stays yours, with the numbers that the app uses.

Turn a story into manga

What Konyomi does

You give Kon a story in prose. Kon plans it as manga and draws it with AI models. You do not write a prompt for each panel.

  1. Your story. Paste it, upload it as a .txt file, or talk an idea through with Kon until Kon writes a manuscript.
  2. Preparation. Kon reads the text once. It lists the characters, the places and the objects, and splits the story into chapters at natural breaks.
  3. Cast. You pick an art style. Kon draws each main character once, before any page exists.
  4. Chapters. Kon plans each chapter as pages, rows and panels, and writes the balloons from your text.
  5. Drawing. Kon draws every panel with the cast drawings as references. A chapter takes about 10 minutes.
  6. Reading. Read the chapter, change any balloon, draw a panel again, then keep it private, share its link or publish it.

What you can give Kon

InputLimit
Pasted textUp to 200,000 characters, roughly 30,000 to 35,000 words of English prose.
.txt filePlain text only, with the same limit of 200,000 characters. Word, PDF and EPUB files are not accepted yet.
A conversation with KonKon asks one question at a time. Then it writes a manuscript of up to about 3,000 words, which you can edit before Kon draws it.
Length of one storyUp to 40 chapters. Each chapter has up to 6 pages and 16 panels.

Use text that you wrote or have the right to adapt. A light novel or web novel by someone else needs the permission of its author before you publish a manga of it.

Languages, art styles and reading direction

Kon reads a story in the language you wrote it in, plans the balloons in that language and keeps the lines of your characters as written. The buttons and menus of the app are in English.

Ten art styles: Shōnen action, Shōjo romance, Seinen, Webtoon, Painterly, Retro anime, Chibi, Noir, Classic comic and Superhero. One style applies to the whole story. The AI comic generator page shows a sample of each.

Pages read left to right, like an English-language comic. Right-to-left pages and vertical webtoon strips are not available yet.

What gems and coins cost

Konyomi has two currencies. Gems pay for the steps in which Kon prepares, writes or draws. Coins unlock later chapters of stories that other people published. Konyomi shows the price before each paid step. Prices are in US dollars, before tax.

Chapter 1 of every published story is free to read. Each later chapter costs 5 coins to unlock, and it stays unlocked. Your own stories cost no coins. Coins cannot pay for drawing. Changing the words in a balloon is free. Gems and coins never expire, and neither can be exchanged for money. The coins that readers spend do not pay the author at this time.

What is free

  • Signing in with Google, and the free tools on this site, which need no account.
  • 30 coins for reading when you first sign in.
  • 5 more coins each day. You claim them once per calendar day, in UTC.
  • Launch offer, while it lasts: the first 75 new accounts get 70 gems at their first sign-in. That pays for about 10 messages to Kon, the manuscript (5 gems), the preparation (20) and 3 main character portraits (10 each). Accounts made before the offer started do not get these gems.

Drawing a chapter costs 100 gems, so it needs a gem pack. A step that fails on Konyomi's side does not use your gems twice.

Payments and refunds

Dodo Payments sells the gem packs and coin packs as the merchant of record. It takes the payment, adds the tax that applies where you live and sends the invoice.

You can ask for a refund within 14 days of a purchase if you used none of the gems or coins of that pack. Write to contact@konyomi.com. The terms describe the other cases.

Who owns the manga

The Konyomi terms say that your story stays yours, and so does the manga that Kon makes from it. You allow Konyomi to store the story, to send it to the AI models that make the manga, and to show the manga to the people you share it with.

AI models made the drawings. The law of your country decides which rights exist in them, and Konyomi cannot promise that a drawing is unlike every other drawing. The terms say nothing specific about commercial use, so check the law where you live before you sell a book.

Privacy and who can see a story

  • A story is private until you share it. Nobody else can open a private story.
  • You choose between private, a link and public. Konyomi reviews a story before it becomes public. Until then, only people with the link can read it.
  • Readers of a shared story see its title, its published chapters, your username and your name. Your email address is never shown.
  • A public story can appear in search engines. You can unpublish at any time. A copy of a drawing can stay readable at its address for up to one day after that.
  • Konyomi studies the requests that Kon sends to AI models, and the drawings, to improve Kon. It may license these records to other companies, such as AI researchers. A record can contain text and drawings from your stories. It never holds your name, your email address or your account ID.

The terms and the privacy page give the full rules.

Common questions

How much does Konyomi cost?

Signing in is free, and the first chapter of every published story is free to read. Making manga is paid with gems. Kon reads a story once for 20 gems and draws each chapter for 100 gems. Is there a free plan or free gems?

Every new account gets 30 coins for reading, and you can claim 5 more each day. While the launch offer lasts, the first 75 new accounts also get 70 gems, enough to plan a story with Kon and draw up to 3 main characters. Drawing a chapter needs a gem pack.

What are coins, and do I need them to make manga?

No. Coins only unlock later chapters of stories that other people published, at 5 coins a chapter. Coin packs start at $4.99 for 100 coins. Coins cannot pay for drawing.
