What closed, and what is still online
The Studio page at dashtoon.com/create now reads: "Dashtoon Studio shut down on 15 August 2026 and is no longer available." It says creation continues on Frameo, which it calls "our new platform for AI video and short drama", and it gives a contact address for questions about your account or your work.
The notice does not say whether you can still download old projects. If you need your files, write to the address on that page first.
The reading side of Dashtoon is still up. On October 27, 2026, dashtoon.com listed comics, manga and manhwa to read and linked its app on Google Play and the App Store.
What Dashtoon Studio gave creators
Before the shutdown, the Studio page listed four features:
- Consistent characters, chosen from Dashtoon's character library.
- Many styles to match a story. The page did not give a number.
- AI tools to turn storyboards into comics, remove backgrounds, fix faces and upscale images.
- Publishing and earning. Creators could publish comics to the Dashtoon Reader app, and a Creator's Program offered a way to earn from them.
Dashtoon's plan page loads its prices with JavaScript, and the archived copies we found do not show them. This page leaves Dashtoon prices out.
Four options side by side

None of these four lists a reader app with creator earnings like Dashtoon's. Prices are as shown on each site on October 27, 2026, with a $ sign.
Why we recommend Konyomi
- You already wrote the story. Paste up to 200,000 characters. Kon splits it into up to 40 chapters and plans every page, so you never prompt a single panel.
- The same faces in every chapter. Kon draws the cast before any page and uses those drawings as the reference in every panel.
- Words you can fix for free. Balloons and captions are text on top of the art.
- Sharing built in. Keep a story private, share it by link or publish it on Konyomi.
- One payment. Packs are paid once and gems never expire.
What the other tools offer
- Page control. LlamaGen edits page layouts, and Anifusion gives you a canvas with inpainting.
- Your own characters. LlamaGen and Anifusion can train a LoRA on your character art.
- Apps, image files and video. LlamaGen and ComicInk have iOS apps and export page images. ComicInk also turns a comic into video.
Which one to pick
Pick Konyomi if you think in prose and want a story drawn as manga chapters without storyboarding it yourself. You keep one cast from the first chapter to the last, you can change any line for free, and you see the gem price before each step.
The other three suit other ways of working. LlamaGen offers imports, layout editing, character training and phone apps. Anifusion is a desktop canvas for building pages panel by panel. ComicInk makes print files and video versions of western-style comics.
To see how Konyomi turns prose into pages, read text to manga or the AI comic generator page. Full tables for seven tools are in the best AI manga and comic generators of 2026.
Common questions
What is the best Dashtoon alternative?
We recommend Konyomi if you start from a written story. Paste up to 200,000 characters and Kon splits it into up to 40 manga chapters, draws each character once and uses those drawings in every panel. Balloons are text you can edit for free. LlamaGen, Anifusion and ComicInk are other options.
Did Dashtoon shut down?
Dashtoon Studio, the tool for making comics, shut down on August 15, 2026, according to dashtoon.com/create. On October 27, 2026, dashtoon.com still listed comics to read and linked its reader app.
What replaced Dashtoon Studio?
Dashtoon sends creators to Frameo, which it describes as its new platform for AI video and short drama. For comics and manga, Konyomi draws a written story as chapters with one cast.
Can I get my Dashtoon comics back?
The shutdown notice does not say. It gives a contact address for questions about your account or your work, so ask Dashtoon there.
Is there a free Dashtoon alternative?
As of October 27, 2026, Anifusion gives 100 free credits, and LlamaGen has a free plan with a watermark and up to 4 panels per page. Konyomi is free to join and read, but drawing needs a gem pack from $19.99.
Which Dashtoon alternative keeps characters consistent?
Konyomi draws each character once from your text and uses that drawing in every panel, with no setup. LlamaGen and Anifusion let you train a LoRA on images of your character, which takes setup and gives more control. ComicInk says it keeps faces and outfits locked but does not describe how.
